Teacher station the teacher discusses and questions students about what they know about causes of the Great Depression reviewing what students have learned. Small group station students work through and discuss a scenario of what someone is going through during the depression and coming up with a plan. Individual work students watch a video on the New Deal and answer questions.
southecParticipantFrom a student’s perspective a station rotation looks like a time I can get up and interact in different ways. One I get to work with the teacher and others in a small group, another I get to work/practice what I have learned with others, and I get to do an activity on my own.
For the teacher it looks like students rotating through a variety of activities to practice and learn, while receiving focused instruction from the teacher who is getting direct feedback from students.southecParticipantWorking on grammar, discussing a topic for understanding
southecParticipantWhat I am most excited about playlists is to give students choice and see how they respond to choice. I am hoping that this results in more engagement and learning as they receive choice in their learning.
southecParticipantI found a playlist with 3 columns the first as learn, students do 1 activity, practice has students choosing 2 things, and the last column is teach and students choose one activity.
This would be good for students as they would have choices to make in each column on the topic to be learned.southecParticipantConcern I have with a playlist is will students look for assignments they have less reading and more videos. Hence students will not be building their literacy skills.
southecParticipantStudents who need extra time in my class, have up two weeks to submit work. We are also one day in person and one day online, so students have time when they are at home to complete work they need extra time to work on.
southecParticipantI have done flipped lessons by providing both reading and videos via things such as Nearpod and Google Docs on Canvas. Students watch the video or complete the reading while answering questions. The next day in class students come in and are given a scenario or problem in history and discuss in groups based off of what they learned.
southecParticipant2-3 steps you would take to implement a flipped classroom approach in your classroom:
1. Set expectations for online class and in class expectations.
2. Explain the importance of online work and how it impacts learning in the classroom. An obstacle that I will face will be getting students to do the at home work, which will make it difficult to teach on days students are in the classroom.
southecParticipantI use google surveys to collect information on how students are doing and also through goal setting activities so students can set goals and see how they are progressing.
southecParticipantI currently provide assignments with different ways for students to show what they are learning by giving them options to show what they have learned.
I would like to learn more about using playlists for an entire unit. -
