I have used Padlet multiple times this spring semester. I use it for introduction type lessons, or utilizing it for a bell ringer. It allows students to see their responses and to also make sure any questions on the topic can be displayed in real time.

I have tried to do many different ice breakers over the years with students. One big one is celebrating the students that have a certain month for their birthday and having a brain break during a specific lesson and we have small discussions on what they did for their birthday or what they might be planning for it if they have not had their bday yet. Students are always super appreciative of getting small gestures and knowing that their “day” wasn’t forgotten.

I have started using an online program called padlet, where students do not have to physically raise their hands but can be engaged through responses that will be placed on the white board. Some times there are review questions from the lesson yesterday or an introduction type of question on something new. There is a basic education for the students to understand appropriate responses are only allowed during this time of instruction.

The biggest connection between the two learning styles is the collaborative aspect between the teachers that will lead to better engagement. Having a district completely engaged in PLC’s makes a huge difference in classroom if the teachers know and understand how to use the time efficiently. I taught in a building that used these time slots before school started on Friday mornings, but not all teachers really attacked that time to build more engagement for students.
