I really like your idea of starting with a virtual meet and greet and giving students a clear agenda ahead of time. This helps them feel prepared and comfortable. Having opportunities for students to interact is so important, especially in an online setting, so they don’t feel alone in their learning. Your “Health Triangle” project sounds like a great way for students to share about themselves while also learning about their classmates. I also agree that students need deadlines, but allowing them to work at their own pace and try again helps them focus on understanding instead of just finishing quickly. Giving students multiple ways to learn and practice is a great idea because not all students learn the same way. It sounds like you are creating a supportive and flexible learning environment that helps students stay engaged!

I really like how you take the time to learn about your students at the start of the year. Getting to know their interests and activities helps build strong relationships, and I agree that it also helps students connect with each other. Greeting students by name is a great way to make them feel welcome and comfortable in class. I also like how you include hands-on activities and group discussions in math. Since many students struggle with or dislike math, making it interactive and connected to real life is important. Your approach to accepting late work and allowing corrections is great because it gives students a chance to learn from their mistakes instead of just moving on. This helps them focus on understanding instead of just getting a grade. It sounds like you are creating a supportive classroom where students feel encouraged to try and improve!

I will start each class by building relationships with my students through quick check-ins, SEL prompts, or small group discussions. This will help create a welcoming and supportive space where students feel comfortable. I will also set clear expectations for respect and teamwork to build a positive learning environment. Using peer feedback, like TAG Feedback, will help students learn how to support each other and stay engaged. To make learning more interesting, I will connect math to real-life examples, like budgeting, architecture, or data from social issues, so students see how math applies to the world around them. I will also use interactive tools like Desmos and My Open Math to make lessons more hands-on. For grading and assessment, I will focus on student growth by allowing different ways to show understanding, such as projects, reflections, and small quizzes. I will use feedback to help students improve and will offer retakes or revisions so they can learn from mistakes. My goal is to help students stay motivated, feel confident in their learning, and see the value in what they are doing in class.
