ParticipantIn my chemistry class I make my students write all answers in complete sentences. It takes several weeks at the beginning of the semester to finally get most of my students to do this correctly. For those that don’t, I give partial points, for the information, and then they can earn full points by redoing the problem as they were supposed to originally. I give examples of good responses and poor responses, and I give ideas on how to build out the poor responses.

ParticipantUnfortunately the best part of a chemistry class is not available when using an online format. Especially for topics like electrons, and the famous flame test lab that students always enjoy doing. In order for the students to be able to see this correlation I would use several different videos: fireworks, how the different colors are achieved; neon lights, how electricity passing through a gas creates light. The students would also have several different group assignments to help discuss the these processes.
This is a perfect way to use the hyperdoc, by including the link o the different assignments, videos, and simulations.

The main content went well. I have several stories from my college professor, who was Russian, about Mendeleeve that humanize and make him more relatable as a historical figure.What part of your live lesson could go better? Why?
The opening demo, some students took to long.Identify 1-2 areas where you think you can improve. What would you do differently next time?
Be more clear with instructions and make sure the game is set to easy to make it go quicker and not take as much time.

ParticipantThe part that I struggled with the most during online teaching was the interaction with the students during the class period. I like to interact with the students about what is going on in the school days and having conversations that tie chemistry to the rest of their school/daily life.
My strategy is to have regular office hours and to provide feedback by recording my responses to their assignments.
I think this will help the students get more involved and ask more questions, and help fulfill me desire to be engaged with the students.
