A collaborative activity would be rotating groups listing new ideas on paper sheets around the room and then giving all students a star to go around the room and star their 3 favorite ideas.

Playlists and hyper docs I’m most excited about for students so that they can tie in their interests outside the classroom with classroom work. This will build connections and increase understanding.

Tracker that accommodates my students would me a digital ECAP. This is a great tracking measure because I have a report broken up by all 4 classes. On the main tab it’s a list of all my students for that grade level and then on each link their last name is linked to a new tab that all I have to do is click on and it tally’s their transcript as I enter if they passed or failed a class that semester. This report is also great because I can put their postsecondary goals on both pages in the notes section and then when field trips come up or if I need to track my hybrid students it’s an easy tally system.

I agree I too am probably about a 3. With collaboration and more time in the field learning we will both grow with time.

Blended learning in secondary education as a school counselor means a combination of face to face meetings in the office addressing the needs and wants for their ECAP while also providing presentations in the classroom and on our multiple platforms. Online resources in the form of presentations on career exploration or FAFSA for seniors and then following up with the, based on survey data or check ins. Crisis intervention and preventative measures in the form of documents and procedures are also important from schools.

I created a 10th grade flyer to promote parent and student engagement for career exploration on MajorClarity. I added a hyperlink and steps to show students how to access this platform.

Has anyone used Parentsquare for communication with students and parents? We just embraced it this year and it’s an adjustment but thinking it will cut down on emails. It’s also a great app too so that I can see notifications to my phone.

Classroom management is important to establish right away otherwise it goes for a very challenging semester. Getting to know your students and their learning styles will help.

Another strategy to piggy back off this idea is sending out a google form to get teacher feedback. Once you have that call the parent and the student to receive their feedback all before the meeting.

What is, or what do you think will be your biggest challenge when it comes to supporting ELL, IEP, and 504 learners in your online classroom?

The biggest challenge I face as a school counselor is having to write the 504 plans and then getting enough teachers to show up to the meetings. What I have found that works is that this year attending 504 and IEP meetings counts as FAC hours.

One strategy I found that helps is offering more trades classes and presentations to gage the students interest. This keeps them more focused I. Coming to school and provided an incentive to talk with other teachers to see what’s working in one class to take some of those strategies.

Building the connection in a safe environment and providing the resources such as a testing center or less options on a quiz might be an option for helping students get to a comparable target grade level of understanding.

What professional development is missing for teachers, counselors, admins and other stakeholders in supporting diverse populations and how to we make that readily available and allow time for?
