The Independent Project model may be best for my students because they are all learning credits at different rates. This way they can complete their credits on an individual basis as they are all at different levels and grades.

Yes, agreed. On several occasions I have come across students who may understand a concept but they struggle to apply it even if it is their interests.

Scaffolding is such a great thing to do as it lets students work at their own pace!

Look back at your reflection guide. What connections did you make between your reflection and the reading?
This behavior noted on the scenarios is something I see with my students often.

Do Aliyah and Christopher remind you of any students in your classroom? What special support would you say your gifted students need right now?
Yes, several students may like math or English and then have a very difficult time in my science class and vise versa.

in reply to: 1.2 – Misconceptions About Gifted Education #14981

Gifted Learners often learn best when the material is relatable to their interests based on my experience. Often times, they are bored or unwilling to try because it doesn’t engage their brains.

Gifted children want the specifics. They want the information down to the nitty little detail. Sometimes, as a teacher, there isn’t enough time to explain everything down to the bones. I end up giving my gifted student a workbook of a higher level and they often excel with that.

Like others on this thread, the misconception that honor students or gifted students will do their work wholly and completely and with excellence is a huge misconception.
