I’ve used rotating partner interviews, where students ask and answer questions about their interests before switching partners. Another favorite is Two Truths and a Lie, where students share two true statements and one false, and peers guess the lie. Both activities help students connect in a fun, relaxed way.

What are instructional activities that work best in a teacher-led, small group setting?
I think this setting is ideal for activities like analyzing complex texts, practicing problem-solving strategies, or addressing specific misconceptions, as the smaller group allows for more individualized attention and interaction.

in reply to: The World of Playlists and Hyperdocs #15169

What are you most excited to try with playlists and hyperdocs?
I’m excited to experiment with customizing playlists and hyperdocs to meet the unique needs of each student. The ability to offer personalized resources and pathways for learning while giving students more control over their pace and focus is something I want to explore.

How might playlists and hyperdocs impact your students?
By allowing them to work at their own pace and providing diverse, accessible resources, these tools can cater to different learning styles and needs. They also encourage students to develop essential skills like independence, time management, and self-motivation.

in reply to: Playlist Concerns #15168

One concern is that some students may struggle with time management and self-discipline when working at their own pace. Without consistent teacher guidance, they might fall behind or rush through tasks without fully understanding the material. This could affect their ability to stay engaged and retain what they’ve learned.

What are some methods you have used with students who need extra time on classwork?
I provide these students with additional time to complete their tasks and often break the work into smaller, more manageable steps. I also offer one-on-one guidance to ensure they understand the material and feel supported.

What are some methods you use for those who finish early?
For students who finish early, I provide extension activities that challenge them to deepen their understanding, such as exploring related topics or applying the concepts in creative ways. I also encourage them to collaborate with peers who may need help, fostering a supportive classroom environment.

I already prioritize teaching quality and make sure my students have access to technology and online resources. I would like to strengthen opportunities for peer interaction and collaborative activities in my teaching. Additionally, I would like to foster students’ skills in independent work and self-directed learning.

in reply to: Blended Learning Models #15142

Which of the blended learning models will work best for your students? Explain why.
My students will attend in-person classes, but they access class resources and submit their assignments online. If more flexibility or study-from-home options become necessary, the Independent Project model could be a great fit. This model would allow students to take ownership of their learning while still benefiting from teacher guidance and online resources.

Visualize your classroom with the model that you selected. What might it look and sound like for the teacher and students?
In the Independent Project model, the classroom would be dynamic and student-centered. Students would engage in self-directed work at their own pace, with access to online resources and tools. The teacher would act as a facilitator, moving around the room to check on progress, provide support, and offer guidance as needed.

in reply to: Defining Blended Learning #15141

Comfort Level: 4/5. I have a lot of experience with both in-person and online teaching, and I’m looking forward to learning more about combining the two effectively.

What are your initial thoughts about blended learning?
Blended learning has become an important part of education, especially after the Covid pandemic. It’s a way for schools to combine online and in-person learning to meet the needs of students in a flexible and practical way.

How do you define blended learning?
Blended learning is a combination of face-to-face and online learning experiences. The online part can be synchronous, with real-time interaction, or asynchronous, where students work at their own pace. This mix helps create a more adaptable learning environment.
