Steven, I was introduced to Mentimeter during Covid and used it quite a bit. I completely forgot about it until I saw it on the Tic Tac Toe chart. I think you’ll really like it!

I completely agree about keeping up with them. There are so many great tools, and I often forget about them. I need to maintain a master list with links and a brief description.

Agreed, Jackie. I wonder how much a school-wide Kahoot subscription would be?

The tech tool you found most engaging or fun to use:
There were several tools I was already familiar with, so I wanted to explore tools I’ve never used before. There were actually 2 that I can see myself really engaging with: Formative and Ed.VoiceThread. I played around with these a bit and they seem like they’ll be a lot of fun.

One challenge you had while developing activities using the tech tools:
Really the only challenge I experienced was with activities that involved setting up classes, of course, since it is summertime. I will be eagerly awaiting course lists so I can get some of these tools set up.

A link or screenshot of an activity you developed using one of the tech tools:
This feels a bit like cheating, but I quickly made a copy of this ice breaker. https://app.formative.com/formatives/685c5856f58830a8a8fbd5f8#685c5856f58830a8a8fbd5ff

We use Schoology as our LMS. For each of my courses, I link my syllabus and classroom rools and expectations at the top. I then maintain weekly and daily folders.
This year my school started being much more intentional with academic vocabulary, with each grade level receiving school-wide word lists. I use each weekly folder to highlight the “word of the week.” I use Schoology to communicate with individual students and the entire class. I use the discussion feature to allow students to interact with one another.

Like most of the other responses in this thread, I would echo the sentiment that student engagement is the greatest struggle. Lack of student engagement creates a ripple effect of other difficulties. For example, when students aren’t engaged, I’m unable to get to know them and their personalities, academic strengths and weaknesses, etc., which leads to my being unsure about how to best help them. One thing I did to help this when I taught virtually during Covid was to create built in questions that students needed to respond to. I was also very deliberate about creating time specifically for personal interaction.

My district uses Schoology; however, I also teach a dual credit course that uses Canvas. I must say I much prefer Canvas for staying organized and communicating with students. Alas.
I played around with organization styles on Schoology. I know many teachers who create folders by topic or assignment type. For example, they might have a vocab folder and an essay folder and a reading folder. For me, I would think that would difficult to maintain and stay on top of due dates and missing work. Instead, I create a folder for each week of the quarter. Within each of those folders is a folder for every day of the week. Everything we do each day goes in that day’s folder. If a student is ever absent or unavailable for a day, all they need to do is open the folder for the day they were absent to see what was missed. I’ve found it to be very useful for keeping both students and myself organized.
