I liked the example but added/modified a few things to fit the high school level

The lesson is on Mardi Gras and specifically the krewes that make it happen. Students are using the official Mardi Gras website to find information on the top krewes and then one of their choice. They are also searching the internet for photos of each and then some supplemental information on the parades.

ParticipantWe are no longer doing e-learning days this school year, so here is the presentation I made for a previous live digital lesson: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1m6Vy0P4n6gfIvjxLEx4Gy_21_uJCm1CqwOdeRETYNPU/edit?usp=sharing
During the lesson I thought the original “who said it” questions went really well. Students were able to give brief answers to demonstrate their knowledge in a low stress introduction. They were then able to use these quotes later to defend their wrap up questions.
What part of your live lesson could go better? Why?
I think gaining participation could have gone a lot better. I had students respond orally to these questions and there was some hesitancy about who wanted to respond.Identify 1-2 areas where you think you can improve. What would you do differently next time?
In the aforementioned area I could have improved how I got my participation. Using the tools from this class I could have made an online poll to receive introduction questions, or broke them up into small groups.faithjb
ParticipantThe novelty of these apps also grinds on me as a teacher. I got to the point at the end of this year and even googled: apps like blooket because I couldn’t stand to do more gold quest. In the end, I found a new resource I like called Quizalize to vary things up a bit, so I’d recommend that if you haven’t used it. However, I know that eventually that too may get overtly popular, so it might be best to rotate that into the list of sources you use so it can at the very least be fresh for you.

ParticipantI’m not sure how you feel about AI, but some of these newer gamified learning resources can take the burden off you making the game for you! I find that really helps if I am stressed for time or annoyed with learning a new program

ParticipantHere is the blooket that I created: https://dashboard.blooket.com/set/651ff938256e9460257a7e00 I use this tool a lot during my lessons especially with verbs. I like it a lot, better than the other options, but it tends to get repetitive. With challenges, I find Google forms to be the most tedious, especially when I am trying to convert an already established assignment into a form

I provide the syllabus at the very top, which includes information about how to reach me as well as class policies. I also include folders to separate information. Two folders that are especially useful for students are my online resources folder and my study materials folders. This helps students online access words that they are unfamiliar with from reliable sites and helps them study for upcoming quizzes.

ParticipantThere have been several times where I have struggled with students not completing online assignments because they did not understand the instructions. Looking at what we talked about, it would be helpful to have a student work sample or a video explanation of the assignment.

ParticipantOne thing I do to keep organized is send myself reminders through the schedule send feature in Gmail. If I have a to-do list or something I want to make sure I don’t forget about, I will send myself an email for the next day so that I don’t get overwhelmed and forget about the tasks from the previous day.
