This honestly would’ve made me so excited as an elementary schooler. I love all the project types given. My concern is the timeline given for these. How long do they have to complete their 3 projects? I would’ve been such a perfectionist with this

I like that it’s easy to read in the sense that students can quickly scan the task and activity when choosing an option. I would also hyperlink the link to the text so students can see the difficulty level of the readings/videos

This is the choice board I gave to my students for their final last year. It is meant to support all learners and includes very visual projects to more in depth writing ones to appeal to different needs.

Universal design within the class is a great way to manage accommodations. Structure the class so it is accessible for everyone instead of having to keep a list of individuals and their accommodations.

I think my biggest difficulty will be in having them be comfortable in using their accommodations

Could you talk about different genres of writing at the beginning of the year? Have them look at different writing samples and have them identify the purpose and audience of the message? Then create an appropriate response to questions in different writing scenarios?

Examples are great to build good expectations. You can even go over in small groups what made one good and the other bad before sharing as a group. You could also if you wanted share a sentence stem to have them fill out in the beginning while they get used to your teaching style and expectations

Between my students with ILPs and IEPs I am seeing a lot of students needing extended time or text read aloud in class. Struggle wise, these students rarely advocate for their needs and if I don’t come to them with a specific plan, they don’t tell me how I can best use their accommodations to help them and will often try to deny the use of the accommodation altogether to fit in with their peers.

Pixton or Storyboardthat are good websites for making online comics. They help out less creative students by giving them the template and characters/backgrounds to choose from

I don’t know if you are familiar with Jackbox games but they have a game mode very similar to this. You could turn this into an anonymous game show where everyone submits their products and then the class votes between two at a time to see who gets funded.

In person, we review numbers together using a group game. With the game, students toss a ball and each person says a number. We go until someone says the wrong number or hesitates too long, but each person must go before someone goes twice. How could I make this virtual?

At my high school on Fridays I like to introduce a francophone artist of the week. Sometimes I will ask questions about the music video we watch but a lot of times I like to just hear about if they liked the song and why/why not. It takes some pushing to get explanations sometimes, but usually the class will all come together about one particular element

I like the music snapshot. Then you can make a personalized playlist too out of the appropriate ones!

I hate to say it because it sounds off, but I’m always eavesdropping on student conversations during class. It’s so much fun to be able to catch a student off guard by sharing a mutual interest or having knowledge of a newer trend/meme.

At the beginning of the year I always like to learn names as soon as possible so that I can greet them with their names at the door. I also like to find out about their interests so I can direct instruction according to what they like. Lastly, I find it really helpful to also attend school functions
