This lesson is for 5th graders and focuses on how plants and animals get things that they need from their environment.
There are links for articles, videos, and an interactive where students create food chains!

That’s a good tip, Amy! Teachers really have to pay attention to how their time is allocated, and perfect is not always possible with those time constraints!

I love that Quizziz can be done independently!

I love kahoot, Quizizz, Blooket! My favorite part is the submissions by teachers that I can pull from about a specific topic. It’s nice to be able to go in and edit something that is mostly already done! It has also been nice to see how other teachers ask questions about the same topics. I’m interested to see how AI will influence or change these tools as it becomes more integrated!

The challenge for me is to continue to make it fresh. I saw comments above about the same teachers using the same cool tools. And that is a struggle. But it is also nice when the kids have consistency and know how to use common cool tools. So, I’m always trying to innovate inside these programs to make it more interesting!

Here’s a link to a blooket that I created to review a PHET science interactive: https://dashboard.blooket.com/set/606e6c8c5fa020001bd558c2

Our district uses Schoology for their LMS. Having all teachers use the same program makes it much easier for students.

Here is a sample of what my online classroom looks like: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p_456jZkHUYqn_MGgpraBaQsDJ61ncZ2-QY0IuOtSC4/edit?usp=sharing

I always have a classroom rules and resources section that would include things like the syllabus, contact information, class calendar. Having a hub of all important class information makes it easier for students to find what they need quickly.

I also love discussion boards for digital communication. Students can post their thoughts and comment on the posts of other students. Our LMS also makes it super easy to track who has posted! Having a robust communication forum for digital students is very important and helps them feel connected.

One way to improve or maintain positive relationships with students is to give constructive and meaningful feedback. While online, this is tougher.
I really liked the idea of giving feedback via audio recording or video.
It seems like this would help bridge the gap of the computer and almost mimic the conversation that you would have in a regular class with a student about their work.

I love the stand up calendar that sits right in front of my computer monitor.

This helps me stay organized with those unique events and not miss meetings, events, or special due dates.

By removing the burden of remembering everything, I am more available to pay attention to students and find myself less stressed.
